Join us for a dynamic evening of dance along with our annual swing dance & dessert fundraiser Swingin' It Forward. The program features an excerpt from Seasons Suite along with the full premiere of Traditions, set to a jazz arrangement of Fiddler on the Roof that explores themes of tradition, family, community and change.
The second half of the evening features the return of audience favorite,
The Swingin’ Nutcracker Suite - a jazzy twist on a holiday gift exchange
tradition that kicks off the season in style.

SUCH SWEET THUNDER
The Southern Theater, Minneapolis, MN

Concerto Dance returns to the Southern Theater with a vibrant evening of modern and jazz dance. The program features repertory work by Steve Rooks, former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Company, honoring the 100th anniversary of Martha Graham, alongside the rhythmic and dynamic work of visiting guest artist Joe Chvala. Artistic Director Jolene Konkel premieres two new jazz dance works, including Jamboree - a high-energy, joy-filled celebration bursting with music and movement that is sure to uplift audiences and Sweet Thunder Suite, a bold new work to conclude the program inspired by Shakespeare’s women and the stories they might have told if given the voice.

Concerto Dance closes out the season with an energetic celebration of American music and dance - from jazz to folk to Broadway-inspired rhythms. This family-friendly evening brings bold movement and joyful storytelling to the stage. The program features the premiere of Rhapsody in Rhythm, a sweeping new work set to iconic American composers across classical and jazz, alongside the high-energy, joy-filled Jamboree, Joe Chvala’s percussive, folk-inspired Footfall, and audience favorite Ode to Opus Jazz, a dynamic tribute to the legendary Jerome Robbins.
Don’t miss this celebration of American artistry, uplifting the human spirit through rhythm, movement, and vibrant concert dance.
